The city acquired roughly 60 acres of its old, blighted city center and rebuilt around Birch Street, a pedestrian-first corridor with about 350,000 square feet of commercial space that won the California Redevelopment Association's 2001 Award of Excellence.
Olinda (Historic Townsite)
The original oil-boom village founded in the 1890s was folded into the new city of Brea at incorporation in February 1917; the site is now California Historical Landmark No.
Olinda Village
A rural hillside neighborhood revived near the original Olinda site starting in 1964 — just six streets and about 120 homes, many on horse properties, backing up to Carbon Canyon Regional Park.
La Floresta
A walkable mixed-use community built around the Village at La Floresta retail center in the 92823 hillside area, including the Buena Vida gated 55+ active-adult section.
Blackstone
A master-planned hillside neighborhood of custom and semi-custom homes built into the slopes of the former Olinda Ranch oil lands on Brea's northeast edge.
Country Hills
An established tract neighborhood along the eastern edge of the city near Brea Sports Park, with direct access into Carbon Canyon — mostly homes built in the 1960s and 1970s.
