NeighbourhoodDowntown Brea (Birch Street)
The city acquired roughly 60 acres of its old, blighted city center and rebuilt around Birch Street, a pedestrian-first corridor with about 350,000 square feet of commercial space that won the California Redevelopment Association's 2001 Award of Excellence.
NeighbourhoodOlinda (Historic Townsite)
The original oil-boom village founded in the 1890s was folded into the new city of Brea at incorporation in February 1917; the site is now California Historical Landmark No. 918, registered January 1, 1978.
