The neighbourhoods

Old Town Calabasas

The city's original townsite, anchored by the 1844 Leonis Adobe, one of the oldest surviving structures in greater Los Angeles, and the neighboring Plummer House; the Sagebrush Cantina building began as a row of small shops built by Lester Agoure Sr.

Mulwood

One of Calabasas's older, non-gated neighborhoods, reachable from Park Granada or Mulholland Drive, with smaller homes than the newer tracts; it contains Park Moderne, the city's first subdivision, originally built as a retreat for artists, craftsmen, and writers.

The Oaks

Calabasas's newest guard-gated community, developed starting around 2005 and considered one of the city's most exclusive neighborhoods, with 24/7 security gating.

Calabasas Park Estates

A gated community accessible from Parkway Calabasas, part of the wave of hillside-canyon development that followed the 1958 formation of the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District.

Mountain View Estates

A gated hillside neighborhood accessible from Las Virgenes Road, built on canyon-lot terrain typical of Calabasas's post-1958 development boom.

Monte Nido

An unincorporated, non-gated community identified with Calabasas that occupies its own small valley east of Malibu Canyon, bordered by Mulholland Highway, Malibu Canyon Road, and Saddle Peak; homes here sit closer to wildland vegetation than in the city's gated hillside tracts.

A day around here

Morning

An early walk at Calabasas Open Space Park, before the day starts properly.

Afternoon

An hour at Calabasas and Park Grenada Waterfall, between the errands that never show up on a listing sheet.

Evening

Dinner at Tosconova, then a short drive back to whichever neighbourhood you call home.
