Full neighbourhood file →A rural, hillside residential area on Colton's southeastern edge along Reche Canyon Road, historically known as Homhoa Canyon in the Tongva language, meaning 'hilly place.'.
Named for English settler George Cooley, who bought 200 acres here in 1853 along the Santa Ana River; the area was called Indian Knolls for nearly a century after tribes sheltered there during the 1862 flood.
Agua Mansa was settled by New Mexican pioneers in 1842 and was one of the largest settlements between New Mexico and Los Angeles in the 1840s; the adjoining South Colton barrio grew from a Southern Pacific railroad labor camp that had roughly 500 residents by 1905.
