Full neighbourhood file →The city's original commercial core got its first post office and bank at the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Walker Street in 1927, decades before the surrounding dairy land was subdivided into today's tract housing.
The thoroughbred and quarter-horse track at 4961 Katella Avenue carries its neighbor's name but sits inside Cypress city limits, with organized racing on the site dating to match races on the Vessels family ranch in 1947.
A 135-unit condo and townhome community was approved by the City Council on May 10, 2021 under the Cypress Town Center and Commons Specific Plan, built on a former section of the race course parking lot — new-construction stock worth checking against the specific plan's shared-wall and HOA structure.
Cypress College opened for instruction on September 12, 1966 on a 110-acre Brutalist-style campus designed by architect Frank Lawyer, anchoring the neighborhoods along its edges with a steady renter and commuter-student population.
Oak Knoll Park, next to the Cypress Community Center on Orange Avenue, has hosted the annual Cypress Community Festival every 4th Saturday in July since 1981, reportedly the largest single-day event of its kind in Orange County.
The Lincoln Avenue Specific Plan allows high-density residential up to 30 units per acre along the corridor; the city approved a 20-unit townhome project at 5302 Lincoln Avenue there on July 14, 2025, including two moderate-income deed-restricted units.
