Historic Downtown District

Centered on Downey Avenue and the Civic Center, this is the city's original 19th-century commercial core and still holds its oldest surviving business buildings.

Downey Landing

Built on the former North American Rockwell/NASA plant, which built 17 Apollo command modules and the structures for all six space shuttle orbiters before closing in 1999; the site is now a shopping, park, and Columbia Memorial Space Center complex next to Kaiser Permanente Downey Medical Center.

Orange Estates

Platted from 2nd Street to 8th Street and Rives Avenue to Paramount Boulevard, one of Downey's older named subdivisions, near the Downey Historical Society's Rives Avenue campus.

Rancho Los Amigos

The area around the county's Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center, which began in 1888 as the Los Angeles County Poor Farm and became a national center for polio treatment and rehabilitation after 1944.

East Downey / Rio Hondo College

The 90241/90242 area east of the civic core, reaching toward Rio Hondo College's Downey-adjacent campus grounds; mostly postwar single-family tracts.

Golden Triangle

The Lakewood Boulevard and Florence Avenue corner is home to the world's oldest continuously operating McDonald's, opened August 18, 1953, now run alongside a company memorabilia museum.
