Downtown

El Monte's civic core along Valley Boulevard holds City Hall and, a few blocks east on Santa Anita Avenue, Santa Fe Trail Historical Park — dedicated in 1989 on the site the city has marked as a California Historic Landmark commemorating the trail's 1850s western terminus.

Auto District

The North Peck Road corridor has anchored car sales since Dominic Longo opened a small storefront dealership here in 1967; Longo Toyota became the nation's top-volume Toyota store in its first year and still operates from the same stretch of Peck Road.

Flair Business District

Now an industrial park off the 10 Freeway, this area was Rosemead Airport, opened in 1942 as the Western Air College field and renamed in 1944; Goodyear picked the runway as its West Coast base for the Goodyear Blimp operation in 1950.

Norwood Village

Also known as Norwood-Cherrylee, this residential grid between Peck Road and Santa Anita Avenue filled in with single-story ranch homes and compact apartment courts during the city's mid-century building boom.

Mountain View

Named for and served by its own Mountain View School District — ten elementary schools plus two middle schools feeding Mountain View High School — this eastern neighborhood is one of El Monte's largest by population.

Arden Village

At 2.44 square miles this is El Monte's largest neighborhood by area, bordered along its northern edge by the Eaton and Arcadia Wash flood-control channels that carry storm runoff toward the Rio Hondo.
