Hermosa's stretch of the beachfront boardwalk runs from the Redondo Beach line north through Manhattan Beach toward Santa Monica; unlike its two neighboring Beach Cities, Hermosa Beach owns its own sand outright rather than leasing it from Los Angeles County.

The blocks between the Strand and the Hermosa Valley Greenbelt hold the city's densest concentration of small, rebuilt beach lots around the 1,000-foot concrete pier, built in 1913 after the original 1904 wood pier partially washed out.
