The neighbourhoods

Where La Verne actually breaks down, in the desk's own words.

Old Town La Verne

The historic core along D Street and Bonita Avenue, where the La Verne Historical Society has placed bronze streetside markers on 23 (and counting) homes built between 1880 and 1930 in Queen Anne and Craftsman styles.

University District

Centered on the University of La Verne's 3rd Street campus, founded in 1891 as Lordsburg College by the German Baptist Brethren after they bought Isaac Lord's failed hotel and 100 city lots for $15,000.

Marshall Canyon

A foothill area anchored by the 119-acre Marshall Canyon Regional Park and its Fred M.

North La Verne Hillside

An all-single-family foothill neighborhood at the base of the Angeles National Forest, built out mostly between the late 1970s and 2000 in midcentury, Mediterranean, and Tuscan styles.

La Verne Heights

A gated community of roughly 200 two-story, multi-car-garage homes built between 1996 and 1998 in the northern foothills, with a private park and two tennis courts for residents.

Marshall Canyon Estates

One of northern La Verne's guard-gated hillside communities of custom homes on larger, more elevated lots, backing up to the Marshall Canyon open space.

A day around here

Ordinary life in La Verne, the way it actually runs — not a highlight reel.

Morning

Coffee at Ding Tea, then whatever the day actually needs.

Afternoon

An hour at Emerald Park, between the errands that never show up on a listing sheet.

Evening

Dinner at Flying Rice, then a short drive back to whichever neighbourhood you call home.
