Possibly, but nothing is decided yet. On October 21 the Planning Commission is asked to waive Rialto’s ban on truck yards across the street from homes so a yard for up to 192 trucks and trailers can open at Jurupa Avenue and Willow Avenue.
What the city is deciding
Rialto’s code prohibits truck yards next to, or across the street or intersection from, land used or zoned for homes. A variance is permission to break one zoning rule on one property. The Commission is also asked to approve an operating permit, the site design and an environmental review.
Where and who it affects
The proposed yard would occupy 6.55 acres of vacant land at the northwest corner of Jurupa Avenue and Willow Avenue. Two Rialto homes and one county home sit south across Jurupa Avenue, and another county home is to the west. The Rialto homes were legally built but do not fit today’s light manufacturing zoning.
What it could mean for your property
If approved, the site would have an 8,400 square foot maintenance and office building, 25 passenger parking spaces, and parking for up to 192 trucks and trailers.
Draft conditions would limit daily traffic to 95 truck trips and 68 passenger vehicle trips. All trucks would use the Willow Avenue driveway and travel to and from Santa Ana Avenue, never on Jurupa Avenue, which keeps them away from the homes to the south. Trucks could not queue on public streets or idle on site for more than five minutes.
The plans call for a solid block wall, eight to fourteen feet high, along the east, south and west sides. Landscaped planters would be fifteen to twenty five feet wide on those sides.
If noise or traffic became a problem, the operator would have 48 hours after city notice to fix it. Violations could cost the permit.
Questions to ask before you buy or build
- What truck route and daily trip limits apply to the site?
- What wall and landscaped buffer would face the property?
- Has the Planning Commission approved all four requests?
What happens next
The item moved from October 7 because of an error in the published notice. The hearing is October 21, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at 150 South Palm Avenue. Comments may be given at the podium or emailed to [email protected] at least two hours before the meeting. The draft resolutions still have blank vote lines.
