Belmont ShoreBuilt around Livingston Drive and 2nd Street between Bluff Park and Naples Island, the neighborhood mixes 1920s and 1930s Spanish-style homes with a beach protected from surf by the Long Beach breakwater, making it a favorite of kitesurfers rather than swimmers.NaplesDeveloper Arthur Parsons raised $500,000 to reshape Alamitos Bay marshland into three canal-laced islands starting in 1905; the seawall was rebuilt in 1938 after the 1933 Long Beach earthquake and is again undergoing replacement amid funding disputes.Bixby KnollsSubdivided from the Bixby family's Rancho Los Cerritos after Jotham Bixby's death in 1916, the neighborhood's homes were mostly custom-built between 1920 and 1940 and it still includes the historic Rancho Los Cerritos site on its western edge.California HeightsFormer Bixby Ranch grazing land subdivided starting in 1921 after oil was discovered on neighboring Signal Hill; roughly 250 families moved in between 1925 and 1927, and the district petitioned the city for paved streets and curbs in 1927.Alamitos BeachPlanned as its own townsite before annexation into Long Beach, this coastal neighborhood between Junipero Avenue and Alamitos Boulevard is slated to host beach volleyball during the 2028 Summer Olympics.Rose ParkFirst settled in 1905 around a circular park the Alamitos Land Company donated to the city in 1910, the historic district is built out mostly in Craftsman bungalows and is home to the landmark Skinny House.
